Wilson Bowden Developments Wins Kidderminster Scheme
An 8 screen cinema, 20 lane bowling alley and hotel are among the plans for the redevelopment of the Worcester Street area of Kidderminster.
Wyre Forest District Councillors have chosen to work in partnership with Wilson Bowden Developments to transform the site, which was home to the indoor market, magistrates’ courts, shops and public spaces. The Proud Cross Monument will also be refurbished and the scheme will create a key entry point to the Town Centre from Comberton Hill and the Ring Road.
The plans also include restaurants, bars and housing focused around a pedestrianised Worcester Street.
Councillor John Campion, the Council’s Cabinet Member for finance and Corporate Affairs said:
“We are delighted with the chosen scheme; it will create a great gateway into the town. As well as shops, housing and leisure facilities, the plans include improving access for motorists and pedestrians. There will be lights on the island so people can choose whether they want to use the subway.”
He added:
“This is an exciting opportunity for the Council to produce a leisure quarter in the town, which will draw people in from outside the district.”
Andrew Dickens, Head of Cultural, Leisure and Commercial Services, said:
“We believe that with Wilson Bowden we can ensure Kidderminster has something for all the family and encourage people to spend their leisure time in the town. It will improve the leisure opportunities in the District and enhance the night time economy.”
Will Robinson, Retail Director for Wilson Bowden Developments commented;
“We are delighted to have been selected by Wyre Forest District Council as preferred development partners and look forward to working with the council to deliver our vision for this landmark development in Kidderminster. We are already in discussions with a number of major operators interested in the development”.
