DECISION ON PORTERS PUBLIC HOUSE FOR MACCLESFIELD TOWN CENTRE REDEVLOPMENT
The results from the public exhibition and following consultation period held during September / October during which Wilson Bowden Developments showcased their proposed masterplan for the redevelopment of Macclesfield town centre was presented to councillors yesterday.
Wilson Bowden will be releasing the responses to the public consultation and their reactions to these in the second newsletter to be circulated in December.
Peter Yates Corporate Planning Manager at Macclesfield Borough Council said;
“The purpose of the consultation was to encourage members of the public to have their say on the development proposals, the feedback received has been encouraging and the public comments will be taken in to consideration in forming the final proposals that Wilson Bowden will submit as part of the planning application.”
The masterplan exhibited caused some controversy as the plans showed an option to breakthrough Roe Street resulting in the loss of the Porters Public House. Since the exhibition members of the public and patrons of the pub have been forming a campaign to request the developers reconsider their options, and over 1,000 petitions have been received.
As a result of this feedback Wilson Bowden Developments have announced that they have instructed their architects to consider an alternative design solution to break through Roe Street at an alternative point and therefore retaining the Porters pub.
Development Manager Emma Newman said;
“The original proposals were presented as a preferred design solution; they were by no means a final design, and the reaction surrounding the loss of the pub has prompted us to look at alternative solutions. The design that forms a part of the planning application will reflect the retention of the Porters Pub”.
Wilson Bowden Developments are currently preparing a planning application to be submitted in Spring 2007.
