Moving Forward with the Plans for Macclesfield Town Centre Redevelopment

Plans for the redevelopment of Macclesfield Town Centre are progressing well.
Wilson Bowden Developments in Conjunction with Macclesfield Borough Council are exhibiting the latest master plan next week before submitting the planning application at the end of this year.

The exhibition is open to the public and will take place on Friday 22nd September 9.30am – 3.00pm and Saturday 23rd September 9.30am – 4.00pm at the Senior Citizens Hall in Macclesfield.

The master plan for the development will be presented at the exhibition next week and will show how Macclesfield town centre is to be transformed with additional shops, restaurants, cafes, a cinema and a new town square. An artist’s impression of the scheme will also be on display and members of the public are encouraged to give their view on the plans.

Emma Newman Development Manager at Wilson Bowden Development said;
“This redevelopment is providing with an opportunity to bring additional retailers in to Macclesfield. We are currently speaking with some of the UK’s top retailers who are keen for a presence in Macclesfield and this development will in turn reflect their needs”

Last week Wilson Bowden Developments announced that they were in negotiations with one of the UK’s largest cinema operators to provide a 30,000 sq ft (8 screen Cinema). The company have also been in negotiations with a major department store to provide 80,000 sq ft of retail space. A full announcement detailing the retailer and cinema operator involved will be made early in 2007.

Peter Yates Corporate Planning Manager at Macclesfield Borough Council said; “I would encourage members of the public to visit the exhibition and see for themselves how the plans will transform their town centre. Wilson Bowden have been consulting with some of the UK’s top retailers, the success of their negotiations will certainly make Macclesfield even more attractive to shoppers”.
