Consultation heralds a success for Plans to redevelop the old town hall

Oldham Borough Council and Wilson Bowden Developments were encouraged by public support received for the proposals of the redevelopment of Oldham’s Old Town Hall and neighbouring Clegg Street Site following an exhibition of the plans to the public in July.

The exhibition held in the Spindles Shopping centre 20th, 21st and 22nd July and part of Wilson Bowden Developments public consultation strategy, showcased plans of the development site which include a cinema, shops, restaurants and public squares.

During the exhibition local residents were asked to respond on various aspects of the proposed plans including the usage of the development and the use of the public spaces to the front and rear of the old town hall.

Andrew Dakin, Development Manager for the project said;
“We are pleased with the support we have received from the general public of Oldham. The idea of reinstating the Old Town Hall to a community use appealed to all.
The principle of creating new public spaces and a covered arcade was well received, and our proposals to use the development for a mixture of leisure and shopping opportunities were met with encouraging enthusiasm. Residents were particularly in favour of the proposals to include a cinema within the development.”

The planning application for the development will be submitted in the autumn, until such time the public consultation is on going and Wilson Bowden Developments will continue to meet with local interest groups to gain further opinion on the plans.
